Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies

The Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies major (LAIS) is designed for students pursuing a career as elementary or special education teachers.

Get a strong foundation of content knowledge in four core academic disciplines (English, math, science, and social studies) plus advanced coursework in professional studies. Be well prepared for successful teaching experiences.

Get your degree online

Most courses required for LAIS are available online. Hybrid classes in pedagogy strengthen your preparation for teaching and meet several times a semester, during nights and weekends, in your region. Practicums and a semester-long student teaching experience add real-world experience to your online coursework.

You can fast-track your path to a LAIS degree with MBU’s generous transfer policy: up to 36 credits (12 courses) through direct course equivalents from the Virginia Community Colleges System can count towards major requirements.

Happy graduates
