Why Study Psychology at Mary Baldwin?

Mary Baldwin University’s psychology degree program is designed to help you develop and apply a scientific understanding of mind and behavior. Through hands-on research and opportunities, you’ll develop critical thinking, analyzing, and oral communication skills — skills highly sought after by employers.

You can choose from in-demand areas of emphasis, including:

  • Child psychology
  • Elder care
  • Forensic psychology
  • Mental health
  • Occupational and physical therapy

Our program teaches you to collect, analyze, and interpret your own data — lab work almost unheard of for most undergraduates. You’ll leave having conducted your own research project and prepared a manuscript of your findings. You may even present it publicly. This level of practice leaves you prepared and confident for when you enter the workforce. The skills honed in the discipline of psychology are useful in all aspects of work and life.

Flexible Degree Options

Tailor your educational journey by pursuing a bachelor of arts (BA) or a bachelor of science (BS) in psychology. Additionally, we offer psychology as a minor or post-baccalaureate certificate program, providing options for students with diverse academic interests. The psychology program is available in-person at our Staunton campus, or online.

“The relationships I was able to build with instructors created such an amazing learning experience. And I can’t just single out one or two — so many of them went out of their way to help me discover my passion and figure out what I want to do for the future.”
